Cult hero Parramatta hooker Billy “The Spaceman” Rayner was a great for the club through a horrific period where Parra won six wooden spoons. Rayner, also nicknamed "Funny" worked at Sydney Markets. Opposition Magpies hooker Noel [Ned] Kelly also worked at the markets and the pair crossed paths days before they played each other at Pratten Park. Kelly apparently warned Rayner 'don't be a pest on Saturday'. According to reports on game day, the first scrum of the match packed down with Rayner collapsing to the turf and taken off on a stretcher.
