Anthony Horden & Sons Department Store
644 George St Sydney
Once the address of Anthony Horden & Sons. At the time was known as the 'biggest store in Australia'. Has since been knocked down and replaced by 'World Square'. After the announcement of the 1952 Kangaroos touring squad, a great presentation was made for Australian captain Clive Churchill, who worked at the store during the week. It included many big names in the game like Harry Flegg and Ray Stehr. During the event, it was revealed that a Souths patron named Dave Spring travelled to Newcastle to watch Churchill while he was still playing in Newcastle in an effort to bring him to Sydney and play for the Rabbitohs. Easts legend Stehr then revealed that his club were also in negotiations with Churchill at the same time and were on the cusp of bringing Churchill to Easts!
