Australian, NSW and Souths legend Eric Lewis lived upstairs at The Dolphin for many years and famously spotted Jack Rayner, while serving in World War II, playing a game of rugby league in the mud in Port Moresby and invited him to trial for the Rabbitohs. He was still living at the pub until his death in 1959.
