Jack Holmes
4 Kelsey St Arncliffe
Jack Holmes was a young star of the game in the late 1920s, playing for Wests and then Newtown. He was then selected for the Kangaroos Tour of 1929-1930 where he played 12 games. During the trip, Holmes met his future wife, Mary. They married and Mary returned to Australia with Holmes. He died suddenly at the age of 26 during an operation to remove his appendix. A benefit match was played at the old Earl Park to raise funds for his wife and young child, Angela. The match was played between Australia and a combined Newtown/Wests side.
