Messenger's sore tooth

An old story regarding Dally Messenger goes that long into retirement, the Immortal and pioneering champion walked into the sheds at half-time of a big premiership match at the SCG and saw a dentist pulling a tooth from one of the player's mouths. Messenger, with a toothache himself, asked for his own tooth be extracted. The dentist originally said no but eventually ripped out the tooth as Messenger laid on a table.
