Greg Hartley vs Mary Latch
68 Mary St Lilyfield
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, there weren't many bigger feuds than the Parramatta club, Eels supporters and referee Greg 'Hollywood' Hartley. It came to a head in a match between the Tigers and Eels at Leichhardt Oval in 1980 when a female Parramatta fan jumped the fence and abused Hartley face-to-face in the middle of Leichhardt.
Mary speaking to Steven Russo in RLW years later:
"I remember he disallowed a couple of tries in the early stages of that game. Nobody asked me to do it, I did it because I'm Mary and I decided to do it. Nobody knew I was going to do it until I jumped the fence. I had a shot at Hartley and then I remember Geoff Gerard asking whether I had thought about the police... I hadn't even it a thought."
For the record, Parramatta smashed Balmain 37-10 with the Eels winning the penalty count, 11-7.
