Christian Brothers Balmain

"The schoolboys of Sydney were not slow to respond to the new game, as evidenced by a nice story told in a 1931 radio talk by Balmain secretary Bob Savage. Save recalled his first league game back in 1908. "It was or usual pastime after school to play rugby football between the Balmain Christian Brothers where I was a pupil and the Pidgeon Ground Public School. The first I remember of rugby league was when the two rival captains were tossing. Jimmy O'Rourke [Brothers] suggested to Oscar Selig [Pidgeon Ground] that we play the new rules, and he agreed. What cheeky brats they were in those days" - from Ian Heads' 'True Blues - History of NSW Rugby League'.
