George Watt

2 Park St Sydney

Location of the former Town Hall Hotel in Sydney CBD which is now a Westpac branch - part of a larger building. From Ian Heads and David Middleton's 'A Centenary of Rugby League': "George Watt, a star for Easts in the 1945 Grand Final, was a great hooker, a larger-than-life character and a man who loved a beer. Old timers at Balmain [where he played between 1938 and 1944, with a season at Cessnock in 1941], swore that George's regular routine for an SCG match of the day was two schooners at the Town Hall Hotel in Balmain, then a bus to town, two schooners at the Town Hall Hotel in the city, and then a tram to the Cricket Ground."
